A fact-finding congressional delegation (CODEL) to the hotly disputed Gaza Strip includes Donna, Admiral Fitzwallace, Congresswoman Wyatt and a few members of congress as they sort through the thicket of rival issues between the Palestinians and Israelis—but the killing fields soon claim some of the delegation when a deadly bomb shatters their vehicle and has the President considering targets for military action. In flashbacks, Donna is attracted to a dashing Irish photojournalist who opens her eyes to the conditions faced by inhabitants in the area.
The victims of the bombing include Congressmen Korb and DeSantos; James Holtman, a legal aide to DeSantos; and Fitzwallace. Donna is severely injured; consequently, she is flown to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany for treatment.
The incident in Gaza is based on the October 15, 2003 bombing of an American diplomatic convoy in Gaza, which killed three Americans.[1]
The assassination of a congressman in the line of duty has only happened once in American history. Congressman Leo Ryan, who was murdered during the Jonestown massacre, remains the only U.S. congressman killed in the line of duty.
The episode was nominated for an ASC award for cinematography.[2]
